Ok so you pull up the radial that deal with formation positioning, you point at the siege machine or ladder until the flag turns into two years, then you pull the right trigger. The required units will disengage from the formation to go operate, while the rest form up into shield wall behind the machine. Create an army and invite only them. That's a no-cost, free, Army you can use to train up Leadership for a few levels. Other than that, they don't serve any intelligent purpose right now other than allowing you to effectively have more units by always being with you in an Army that doesn't cost you any influence.
Put em through the meat grinder and when you're low, go grab a bunch of bandits and/or regular recruits, donate a couple 2H swords, and bam, you're back to a full stack of max-tier troops. Rinse/repeat. I think the fix is to only allow post battle from loot, i.e. no crafted items. Smithing needs to have called nerfed.
I joined a kingdom, followed the big army to fight in battles. sell all the loot and prisoners you get. do this until you have a good stockpile of money. level your clan up, give your followers thier own army. create an army of just your followers. this doesnt cost influence. repeat until you have tons of money.

How to Create a Kingdom in Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord. Starting a kingdom can be very hard and grindy to do. First of all, having low levels in most skills will make you a horrible ruler. Second of all, getting a big enough army to actually protect the newly-founded kingdom is going to take a while.

When i need to add garrison to captured city or castle I gather all my companions by creating an army. Take all their troops except recruits and dump them to garrison. All my cities have decent garrison without me donating any of my own troops. And even if they die to random bandits before they recruit some troops just create party again.
